Thoughts Become Words

"Watch your thoughts, they become words; watch your words, they become actions; watch your actions, they become habits; watch your habits, they become character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny," - Frank Outlaw. This quote is a great reminder of managing your mood. You get to decide every second of every day how you respond to life’s moments and challenges.

Emotions are part of the human experience. Depending on the day, emotions can be a compatriot or adversary. Managing emotions allows a person to make better decisions, and understanding them helps recognize the triggers.

I’ve been studying the Law of Attraction for several years and have learned about the emotional scale as presented by Abraham Hicks (listed below). In the teachings the objective is to locate your current emotional state, then if possible, reach for a better feeling thought; moving up the scale.

  1. Joy/Appreciation/Empowerment/Freedom/Love

  2. Passion

  3. Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness

  4. Positive Expectation/Belief

  5. Optimism

  6. Hopefulness

  7. Contentment

  8. Boredom

  9. Pessimism

  10. Frustration/Irritation/Impatience

  11. Overwhelm

  12. Disappointment

  13. Doubt

  14. Worry

  15. Blame

  16. Discouragement

  17. Anger

  18. Revenge

  19. Hatred/Rage

  20. Jealousy

  21. Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness

  22. Fear/Grief/Desperation/Despair/Powerlessness

If you were feeling anger, it’s not expected to go directly to joy, but it’s recommended to reach for a better feeling thought, even if it’s blame or worry. By practicing and moving up the scale it’s getting you closer to a more positive emotion. Shifting your perspective can make the difference from having a terrible day to a manageable day; eventually moving to a higher feeling vibe.

Next time you notice your energy is low, try reaching for the next best feeling. Make a game out of it. For instance, play the appreciation game and redirect your negative emotions to what’s working in your life. It’s easier than you think. The higher feeling emotion you experience, the more of the same you’ll attract. Celebrate every small win you have.

I invite you to try moving up the emotional scale when you’re experiencing negative feelings. Your thoughts become words which will dictate your day. For me, the easiest thing I can do each day is look for joy. I may not always find myself that high on the scale, but nine times out of ten, I’ll be looking for the next highest vibe. Give it a chance. What do you have to lose besides negative emotions? ”You are, after all, what you think. Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions.” Elizabeth Gilbert.
