Stay Salty
If you’ve followed my blog posts, you may know how much I love trying new services that help balance my mind, body and soul. Last week I tried something new and booked a spa session for a float tank. If you’ve never heard of one, stay tuned.
Many people soak in Epsom salt baths at home to ease their sore muscles or detoxify their body. Whenever I’ve had some type of energy session, the facilitator always recommends soaking in an Epsom salt bath for the healing properties. I’d throw in a cup or two into a hot bath and soak for at least twenty minutes.
A few years ago, I stumbled across float tanks but wasn’t able to find one in my area. Recently, something made me think about experiencing a session and immediately found a handful to choose from, and booked a session for the next day. Even though I had no idea what to expect I was excited.
Upon arrival I was guided back to the private room that included a shower and a large tub of water. I was given instructions, asked if I had any questions and was left to enjoy the experience. The large tub looked like it had only about a foot of water and 850 pounds, yes that’s correct, 850 pounds of Epsom salt. After taking a shower, turning on the meditation music, putting in the provided earplugs, turning the tub lights on, the room lights off, I stepped over the side and slid into 60 minutes of bliss.
For the next hour I was submerged in a glorious atmosphere of peace, tranquility and salty goodness. I was completely buoyant. It was crazy cool and felt like someone was putting their arms under my back, and lifting me up. I couldn’t touch any of the sides unless I wanted to. I was one with myself. Occasionally I opened my eyes and would be facing a completely different direction than I started.
Once the sixty minutes was up, I made my salty way out of the tub and into the shower. I felt fantastic! I had no idea if my body gained any healing properties from one session, but my skin felt soft and my mind felt refreshed.
A salt float tank may not be safe for everyone but here are some of the benefits which include:
Reduces pain
Relieves stress
Detoxifies
Relaxes
Some describe the float tank is like experiencing zero gravity. For me, it was another fantastic service I’ll add to my toolbox of self-care practices. I’ve always got some self-care appointment planned on the calendar whether it’s a pedicure, facial, massage, energy work, or now a float tank. I’ll stay salty anytime with this practice and intend to go back soon. What are your favorite ways to pamper your body? I may want to add some to my list.
