April Showers Bring May Flowers
With the warmer weather showing up later this year in the Midwest accompanied by several inches of rain, spring flowers are popping up everywhere. My flowering trees are in full bloom as well as many around my neighborhood. This week one variety of my lilac bushes are starting to reveal the loviest smelling plumes.
Each rainy spring, I’m reminded of the saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” It’s been a wet season which lends itself to the blooming flowers and the budding trees. It’s nice to remember, with the rain so comes the sun, and if we’re really lucky a rainbow. One could use the saying as a metaphor for life because everyone must experience stormy weather in order to bask in the sunlight.
If you’re feeling isolated or disconnected, know that you’re not alone. Many people feel the same way. With everything going on in the world, it’s hard not to feel a little disjointed and out of sorts. How can the symbol of rain be used for a representation of life?
The rain always comes to an end and so do difficulties in life. Try not to focus on the negative and look for anything you can appreciate.
The rain rinses the dirt away, and makes life cleaner. If you can begin to focus on washing away your negative thoughts things start to look brighter.
The rain brings rebirth and renewal, and new life emerges everywhere. You can lean in and learn valuable lessons, and use the opportunity to grow into a better version of yourself.
Remember it takes both the sun and the rain for a flower to thrive. We all must experience darkness and stormy days that will ultimately lead us to the sunshine. It may not be today or tomorrow, but those days are just around the corner. I’m thankful that April showers bring May flowers. “When life throws you a rainy day, play in the puddles.” Winnie the Pooh. When you’re ready, pull on your galoshes and enjoy the rain.
