What are you intending for 2021

Holy cow, just like most of 2020, the new year came in with a bang. Events at the capital left many people shocked and dismayed. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought US citizens could or would storm the capital. Seeing this event play out in the news left me feeling anxious and stressed and it was only a few days into the new year. Even though our nation needs to heal from events of 2020 and now 2021, I’m setting my personal intentions of how I want this year to feel for me.

At the beginning of a new year many people make goals and set intentions for the following 12 months, and until recently I hadn’t really thought about the difference between them. Goals are something to work towards. You see something in the future and you make a goal to work towards having it. It also implies you don’t have what you want yet, which implies distance. Setting intentions is as if you already have something, and being receptive to allowing it to come.

By setting intensions for the day, month or even the year, it’s like having a compass with directions to keep you from getting lost. For instance, if I set intentions I was going to have a great day no matter what happened, then chances are my day is going to be pretty darn good. Even if I have something unexpected happen, that simple intention will most likely keep it in perspective and not derail me. By setting intentions, you become more in tune with your thoughts and behaviors which can help you shift your thoughts and manifest the intentions.

I love the idea of setting intentions and then claiming them to the Universe. Practicing gratitude along the way helps keep you focused on the intention. It could be as easy as placing your hand on your heart each morning while focusing on the feeling you want to experience. Send yourself and the day ahead some love and claim it for yourself. Think of your intentions throughout your day and celebrate your victories.

What are you intending for 2021? How do you want to show up for yourself? There’s no time like the present to announce to the Universe how you want to feel, and let it guide your thoughts, actions and attitude. Start small and continuing building on your practice. Let yourself experience it for a week and watch the magic unfold.

Examples:

  • “My intention is to create a positive change in my community.”

  • “My intention is to live a life of joy.”

  • “My intention for today is eat foods my body loves.”

  • “My intention is to lead by example.”

  • “My intention is to be open to abundance.”
