Tending to Your Garden
Do you ever catch yourself saying, “One of these days I’ll……?” Do have a written or mental list in your head of the crazy and sometimes wacky ideas you dream of creating and then checking off? One of my mentors calls it the “Someday List.” We all have them, the littles, mediums and bigs. If you are one of those people that say, “Someday I’ll get to ______”(fill in the blank), what’s stopping you?
I’m not suggesting all your dreams are easy and doable in a short order, but if you start planting the seed, watering the soil, and tending to your garden, visible signs start to surface; showing whispers of new life. The tiniest of green life peeking above the soil will be the encouragement and fuel to take you to the next step.
Maybe you dream of writing a novel. Keep a notebook dedicated to your ideas, outlines, chapters and stories. Or maybe your dream is to learn how to paint, or run a marathon, or purchase a villa in a far away land. Seek out information, train, take classes, reach out to friends and family that may be able to help or know someone that does. The sky is the limit.
8 steps to tending your “Someday List” dream garden
Prep/plant- get those thoughts and dreams down on paper to see your vision
Feed - make sure your dream has what it needs to grow (i.e. skills, lessons, information)
Water - block out dedicated time to take the next step (sprinkle generously to encourage growth)
Sunshine - provide plenty of sunny positivity (to fuel your success)
Weed - prune any negative thoughts of your own and others (they’ll destroy the dream’s full potential)
Trust - find a person or community to encourage your progress (or be your own cheerleader)
Reap - celebrate your harvest and every step along your dream’s journey
Review/refresh - revisit your list often to update, change and keep your dream garden alive
If you’re thinking, one of these days you’ll get to your someday list. I invite you today, to get grab a pen and paper and get to work making those dreams a reality. Don’t let them stay buried. Your someday list is important, the bigs, littles and everything in between. Start small to get your grounding and momentum. Get your boots, grab a hoe, and get tending to your garden. Then reap what you’ve sown.
