Just Horsing Around
This week one of my yoga classes was held at the instructor’s family horse farm. When Krissy, my friend and instructor had announced she’d be having a yoga class with the horses I wanted some of that. I had no idea what to expect but being a farm girl, I felt it would be special. I was right!
The class was positioned in one single row along the wired fence, just a few feet away from the field and the horses. Krissy’s mom, Kathy had strategically placed their morning breakfast of hay directly in front of our mats. We had a front row seat to witness their size, beauty, and strength. They weren’t bothered in the least by our neighboring class.
It was peaceful and calm as we went through our practice. The birds were singing, the bees were buzzing, the dragonflies were flitting about, the ants were crawling and the horses were neighing. It was a beautiful morning to appreciate nature and life.
We were instructed through most of our normal yoga practice with the exception of the balancing section. Krissy felt we were a little close to the wired and electric fencing, therefore decided to forego it, which we all appreciated…..Hahaha. At the end of class during shavasana, the resting and last pose normally done laying down, we were instructed to remain seated with either eyes closed or open, taking in the world around us. I choose to keep my eyes open as I acknowledged and gave thanks for the magnificent creatures and the experience.
Nature has healing qualities such as lowering blood pressure, lifting spirits, and helping with the recovery process. Spending time outdoors on a regular basis helps us both psychologically and physically. One thing I know to be true, whenever I’m surrounded by nature I’m grounded, happy and calm. Although this week I was just horsing around, I was honoring my mind, body and soul. How are you honoring yours?

PS…..A few pesky little ants joined some of us on our mats…..signed……Ants in the pants!
