She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain
We’ve been taught that all things worth it are hard. No pain, no gain. Why does that have to be? Why can’t it be done without a struggle? Frankly, I’m tired of climbing the mountain. I want things to come with more ease and grace. I was reading an article not long ago that basically said instead of climbing up the mountain, why not take the easier route and go around it like a river flows? What a beautiful concept!
Recently, while in Italy, I spent a day in Cortona; a charming community set in the mountains of Tuscany, approximately 2000 feet above sea level, and completely enclosed by stone walls. When entering the city, the tour guide led us up and over stone roads, alleys and passageways. They were so steep, we had to occasionally stop to catch out breath. Once we arrived at the top, the city opened up and welcomed us in.
We spent the day exploring, shopping, site-seeing, and before the tour guide left, she gave us directions to the location where our transportation would meet us to take us back to our villa. Upon leaving, amazingly enough, there were no steep hills to climb. No stone pathways to navigate, just a flat stone surface that lead to the exit. Baffling, but true. We could have taken the easier way into town all along. Perhaps the tour guide wanted us to appreciate the road less traveled on our way out of town.
Easier Path Ideas:
Align your strengths and goals
Have the assumption, it was be easy rather than hard
Asking for help is OK
Prepare and make a plan
It makes your heart happy
Be open to new opportunities and possibilities
So here’s a crazy concept - let life be fun, playful and easy. Work smarter, not harder. Be open to opportunities and possibilities that make things uncomplicated and bring more joy. Success doesn’t have to be something that’s hard to achieve. The next time you see me, you may notice and say to yourself, “She’ll be coming around the mountain instead of up and over.” Then join me in finding the path of ease and flow. I’ll be on the lookout, how about you?
