New Year New You
As 2022 is just coming into focus and 2021 is already in the rear view mirror, what do you want to call into this brand spanking new year? What do you envision for your life for the upcoming 12 months? You get to decide for the next 365 days how you use your time and what energy you call in.
If you follow my blog, you may remember each January I pick a word(s) of the year. A word I refer to over and over again to guide the next 365 days. Long ago I gave up making New Year’s resolutions in exchange for my word. Having a word of the year is a fun way to set your intentions and theme for the next 12 months. Instead of a rigid resolution, a word of the year is your constant (yet gentle) reminder to focus on creating positive change. It will set you in the right direction by bringing more awareness to your intentions. Use your word of the year to help guide your decisions and continue moving towards what you want to create.
My yoga instruction and I partnered for a New Year’s Eve class that would include a few different prompts to create momentum going into 2022. Choosing a word of the year was one of the exercises used along with sun salutations/vinyasa flow, restorative poses and meditation. They all worked hand-in-hand to serve as a meaningful, new beginnings experience.
The last 10 minutes of class everyone had the opportunity to share their word(s) and write them on the mirror that ran the length of the room. What happened next took me by surprise. One by one, they came to the mirror, wrote their word(s), and explained why they chose them. Each women shared a heartfelt and vulnerable response. We were connected by the willingness to share our stories in a safe space.
In this new year new you, what will you choose? Don’t let another 12 months pass you by without taking a chance on one of your dreams? Each day, everyone is given the same amount of time, twenty four hours, or fourteen hundred forty minutes, or eighty six thousand four hundred seconds. What are you waiting for? Here’s to a happy, sparkly, do-over, shiny, blank canvas, full or promise, hopeful, brand spanking new year!

PS….My word of the year is Wonder. I want to look at life with child-like eyes and curiosity. If something happens unexpected I’ll be open to the possibility and the gift.
