Maiden Voyage

I love to travel whenever I get the chance, but recently realized, even though I have traveled alone at times, I have never experienced a trip completely on my own.  I felt I was being drawn to take a solo adventure, my own maiden voyage.

While doing research, I kept finding myself back at the same beautiful bed and breakfast, located in a quaint, historic city, and I booked my stay.  The city offered many attractions within a short distance that could either be found on foot or within a short drive.

When I arrived, I was greeted by Dave, one of the friendly owners of the charming inn.  He gave me a brief history of the building while I provided my information.  During this time, a young couple walked in, and I was immediately introduced.  They had been married at the inn, just the day before.  They were excited to see the photos Dave had taken of their special day.  As the photos were being retrieved, the young couple leaned in and raved about the wonderful inn, and the welcoming service they received.  I knew, in that moment, I wouldn’t regret my decision to pick the darling inn, that sat high on a hill, with a backdrop of lush, green, rolling hills and valleys.

The decision to take a trip was last minute, and I never had the opportunity to make any solid plans or reservations ahead of time, other than my lodging accommodations.  I was taking my chances that everything would work out. Dave had given me several options to fill my first day, and I set off determined to try every one.  Without much effort, I was able to fill each day with fun activities, and places to see. At times, I had to step outside my comfort zone to learn something new, talk to a stranger, ask for directions, or simply to make conversation.

The inn offered a delicious breakfast made fresh each morning by Bernadine, and it was something I looked forward to each day. The guests would gather together to share experiences about our stay, our lives and our families.  We talked, laughed, listened, and laughed some more.  Each person had a unique and interesting story to tell.

My travel tales are far from over, but I will save them for another day. My adventure made me realize…….I dig hanging out with me, after all……I am fun! Well…at least in my own mind I am….and on this maiden voyage, that’s all that mattered.
