How Does it Get Any Better than This

As many of you may know, I’m always trying new things that expand my learning, better my life, create more fun, and in general bring me joy. I was recently listening to Seeking Center: The Podcast that invited the listeners to try something new to bring goodness into their day. As I continued listening, I knew I wanted to experiment for a few days and would record my findings to use in this week’s blog post. I immediately enlisted my daughter to join me.

The essence of the experiment was to repeat the following question throughout the day and watch what unfolded, “How does it get any better than this and what else is possible?” The hardest part of the challenge for both me and my daughter was remembering exactly what to repeat, I needed to refer to the handwritten note over and over, and it was eventually shortened to, “How does it get any better than this?”

What unfolded over three days:

After updating my phone to the latest version, I was alerted that my credit union app and another app’s security could have been compromised and was advised to immediately change my password. Even though it may not seem like a blessing, I was able to update my accounts that included additional security measures. “How does it get any better than this?’

After avoiding the scale, eating pasta and Valentine’s chocolate…I reluctantly jumped on the platform to face my over-indulgence and was down half a pound. V..I..C..T..O..R..Y. “How does it get any better than this?”

A random set of photo memories came up on my phone that were with my Dad (who has passed). I’d been thinking about him and instantly knew he was sending me a message. “How does it get any better than this?”

To set the stage for this next note, over the last several years whenever I’ve received a check through the mail I’ve always said out loud, “Thank you and more please.” I received a check from the Illinois State Treasury for $00.01….LOL. Yes folks, for one penny! That made me laugh so hard, but I still felt appreciation and said, “Thank you and more please.” “How does it get any better than this?”

I opened a package from a friend and reiki master, HopeAscendant, I recently had a healing session with. She created a personal talisman based on our time together. She stated it was the most powerful and beautiful piece she’d ever created to date. It was stunning and exceeded my expectations. “How does it get any better than this?”

I had an important project fall through a couple weeks ago and this week, an unexpected collaboration was formed. “How does it get any better than this?”

After following a semi-truck on a six lane road, I was being nudged to move into the right-hand lane even though it was moving along at a good pace. No sooner did I change lanes, there was a bunch of debris that came off his trailer and into the lane behind the truck, missing my vehicle completely. “How does it get any better than this?”

While grocery shopping, a favorite yogurt flavor that had previously been sold out the last three times I checked, was in-stock and plentiful. “How does it get any better than this?”

During the same shopping trip mentioned above, the avocados were on sale three for $5.00, however when I tried to self-price them at the scale, the price kept showing $8.97. When I went through the checkout lane, I mentioned to the clerk, I didn’t think they were marked correctly. She seemed a bit bothered and then announced the price was not coming up at $5.00 but rather was ringing up at $4.98…LOL “How does it get any better than this?”

On Feb 16, I booked a hotel for an upcoming family trip at the same time as my brothers. We were each immediately charged for the first night’s stay and would be billed the remaining balance once we arrived. We all received our confirmation numbers and were good to go. Two days later I received a text notice of suspected credit card fraud…..UGH! I immediately went into my account on-line and saw they had declined the hotel charge and sited “Suspected Fraud.” I called the bank and explained I was the one that used the card. After several minutes, additional security questions, and two holds, I was told the card would go through with no problem. After holding with the hotel and being transferred, I explained the situation and asked her to rerun the card. Once again it came up as “Suspected Fraud.” Back to the drawing board and another call to my bank, I explained the situation again. The representative could see the notes from the previous call, put me on hold a few more times, asked to remain on the line while I called the hotel to re-run the card. Forty minutes later, once again the card declined. However, the hotel representative said it may take a while for the systems to talk. The bank representative asked me to call after the weekend before I called the hotel. After calling the bank and them confirming the charge would go through I called the hotel and remained on hold. I tried five different times to get through and even gave them a call-back number but never heard back. I didn’t want to lose the reservation since we had gotten a pretty good deal. ARGH. After checking for the next two days, my card still wasn’t charged. I tried one last time and they answered on the first ring. The hotel representative was so nice and looked at my confirmation and said, “Your deposit hold has been waved and I could pay for the full amount upon arrival.” That’s cool. “How does it get any better than this?”

Some of the items I listed may not seem important or a big deal, but to me, each one was special in its own right. It’s not just the big victories, it’s the little ones too. If we can focus on all the goodness that comes our way, we can create real momentum that attracts more and more abundance into daily life.

This experiment only lasted three days. Can you imagine how many blessings could happen over the span of 30 days? Who wants to play in the month of March and join me in having a little fun? I encourage you to try using this question on a regular basis and witness the magic and goodness that develops in your life. It’s as simple as saying the words, “How does it get any better than this,” and then being open to receive what comes your way. I would love to hear your stories.

PS…I had to share a photo of my big windfall. Thank you and more please!
