Everything's Always Working Out for Me
“Everything’s always working out for me” is a statement I repeated over and over during this last several weeks. In fact it’s a statement I often say to myself in general. In an effort to keep myself positive regarding my family’s recent trip to Hawaii and the many hurdles we had to cross in order for the entire group to arrive, it was repeated again and again. By the end of the trip I think everyone was saying it too….haha.
The state of Hawaii has put in place extra regulations to control the spread of Covid, including a negative test within 72 hours of your last scheduled flight. It had to be a certain type of test and must be conducted at a designated testing site. All of us had scheduled our appointments at different locations and three of the seven made appointments at two different facilities.
When it came time for my appointment, I arrived and waited in the drive-through as instructed. The associate came to the window and asked for my name. I tried to give her my confirmation code and she said she didn’t need it. Then the confusion began. She had no record of my appointment! Ummm….”Are you sure you don’t want my confirmation number?” “No, and I don’t see a record of your appointment.” She was gone for what seemed like hours and came back to let me know she would reach out to the nurse. However, if I had an appointment I wasn’t able to reschedule another one until that one was completed……..”UMMM….OK, now what?” Apparently my appointment was canceled and I’d had to reschedule but she had another appointment waiting (which happened to be my friend that was coming with to Hawaii). I needed to get out of line and try and reschedule another appointment. I drove around and got back into line and made the appointment. Thank goodness there was one available……”Everything’s always working out for me.”
Everyone had their tests complete. Then the wait began. The first negative test came in the next day from my son, then my friend Trina, then daughter-in-law, and then daughter. My friend Beth and I were still waiting. Then hers came in around 9:00 pm and thought mine would be right behind hers, but nothing came. I paced back and forth repeating, “Everything’s always working out for me.” As the minutes, then hours went by I was frantic. I quickly got on-line to make an appointment for the next day and there wasn’t one single appointment available any place I checked. I couldn’t sleep or sit still, Then I heard a ding on my phone. It was a few minutes before midnight as I cautiously opened my results……ALLELUIA….queue the confetti. They were negative. I was relieved and excited and quickly uploaded my documents to the proper State of Hawaii website and noticed it said approval in progress. “Everything’s always working out for me.”
The next day came and went and my friend Beth was staying the night at my house for our early morning flight. We celebrated with a cocktail as we finished packing. Then the dreaded phone call came. Hannah mentioned we didn’t have everything in order yet. We needed our negative test to read approved. To make a very long story short, we had to make several phone calls that night and the next day which gave us several different answers. For some reason mine was finally approved but Beth’s wasn’t (even though at one point we talked to the same person). I kept repeating, “Everything’s always working out for us.”
We honestly didn’t know if Beth would be allowed into Maui until we arrived. Thank goodness she had all the needed paperwork in hand and she was able to be approved. The poor couple behind us however, hadn’t received their negative Covid tests and I’m sorry to say they probably had to quarantine for 10 days…..ARGH.
Even though we had a few bumps in the road, the trip was fantastic. The weather was perfect, we had delicious food and tropical cocktails, laughed until our sides hurt and enjoyed the time together. The phrase may seem silly but I stand by it and the law of attraction. I invite you to give it a whirl. Repeat after me, “Everything’s always working out for me”

PS…..One of my daughter’s test never came back, thank goodness she had a backup! Phew!
