Bubbles and Babies

This past weekend I was fortunate to spend an evening with my family. I had booked an outdoor dining bubble more than a month in advance and was looking forward to a fun evening out of the house (free at last…haha). Outdoor dining bubbles have been a trend for the last few years in the area, and the perfect solution to dining out during covid.

The Mars Resort was situated along the shores of Lake Como in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and fortunately for us the weather was very mild for the time of year. We were able to enjoy a cocktail under a tiki hut lakeside and watch the beautiful sunset prior to our reservations.

Upon entering our bubble, it was the perfect heated temperature and we were able to take our coats off and settle in. The plates were shareable as we ordered an assortment, and within a few minutes large platters started to arrive that didn’t quite fit on the table. Unfortunately, that set off a few tipped over water glasses. The first one was my fault right in my daughter’s lap. She was quick to leap to her feet and we decided it would be smart to move a few glasses onto the floor of the bubble; trying to keep them out of harm’s way.

As the evening went on we laughed, told stories, and talked about an upcoming family trip. Basically, we ate, drank and were merry. Crystal, my daughter-in-law and I needed to use the ladies room as we dodged the water glasses strategically placed around us. Upon returning, a woman was scolding our waiter and angrily stated, “Thanks, for throwing water on me!” Our waiter was mortified and was apologizing profusely.

Crystal, started to mention about what we just overheard and my son burst out laughing. Apparently, our waiter kicked one of the water glasses, caught it before all the water spilled out, said he’d replace the glass, then quickly whipped the water out the door of the bubble. He had no idea a couple was sitting within target range by a fire pit. Oh my gosh, we laughed so hard. Not about the women being mad or getting wet but just at the perfectly or not so perfectly timing of the nonchalant throwing action of the waiter. The woman’s husband didn’t seem phased or upset at all.

All in all we had a fantastic time, great food and engaging conversation. I was able to spend some quality time with my babies and family, being present in the moment; consuming every bit of love that was felt around the table. I’ll take bubbles and babies again and again.
