With a Grateful Heart

Thanksgiving happens to be one of my favorite holidays of the year. It's a time for family, friends, food and traditions. Unfortunately, every year my son and daughter-in-law aren't able to make Thanksgiving day dinner because they're always on their way to Duluth, Minnesota, for the first Snocross (snowmobile) race of the season.

My daughter-in-law is one of the photographers for the Snocross series which keeps her busy most winter weekends. By default, my son ends up being the cheap hired help....HA! Up until last year, we never really celebrated with them until my daughter had the brilliant idea to celebrate Thanksgiving with them the day before. Ummm....not sure why it took us so long to figure that one out.

Last night was our 2nd annual pre-Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving dinner together. Instead of the traditional turkey, last year I made prime rib and it turned out so fantastic, everyone wanted a repeat. For the second year in a row, we had a wonderful meal together. Everyone helped plan, shop, cook and clean-up. Before and after dinner we talked, joked, laughed and sparred; especially my son and daughter.

My heart is full when we're together as a family and I'm thankful for a son that is kind, smart, funny and humble. I'm grateful for a daughter-in-law that is determined, creative, happy and loves my son fiercely. I'm blessed to have a daughter who is sassy, spicy and knows exactly what she wants and won't give up until she succeeds.

Today, I'll be celebrating with my Mom, daughter, brothers and their families with the traditional Thanksgiving turkey. My brother Jeff makes a tasty bird and everyone pitches in on completing the meal. The annual potato peeling event with ensue late morning as 10 pounds of spuds will become one of the meal's favorite sides. We'll watch football in between a delicious meal where there may or may not be a bet or two on a game.

It's with a grateful heart that I come to the table today. Grateful for family near and far, friends, food and traditions, new and old. Taking a moment to count my blessings big and small. I'm wishing you wonderful traditions as you celebrate what you are thankful for. May today bring you blessings of joy, thanksgiving, peace and hope.
