Why Wait for Someday

Growing up, I remember my mom always reserving the good china, silverware, candlesticks, and crystal stemware for special occasions. Birthdays, holidays, and important family gatherings were the only times we’d see those treasured items come out of their special cabinets. Naturally, I followed suit and did the same thing. For years, I tucked away the "fancy" things, waiting for the perfect moment to use them, even though those moments were few and far between.

But about 10 years ago, something changed. I thought to myself, Why wait? It hit me one day that I didn’t need to reserve the best things for special occasions. Life itself is special enough, and every day holds the potential to be an extraordinary moment if we choose to see it that way. So, I started pulling out the fancy stuff and yes, even the crystal stemware I had been "saving" for years. Why wait to celebrate when there’s beauty in the here and now?

Of course, accidents happen. I remember the first time one of my crystal glasses broke after I made this shift. My initial reaction was a sharp intake of breath, one of those oh no moments. But then, I realized: it’s okay. It's just a glass. If we never use them, they just sit there collecting dust, and what’s the point of that? I started to understand that by enjoying these items, I was embracing the idea that life itself is the special occasion.

There’s something incredibly uplifting about lighting candles on a random Tuesday evening or sipping wine from a crystal glass just because it’s a gorgeous day. The mindset of "saving things for later" often comes from a place of scarcity, believing that we must wait for something “worthy” to happen before we can enjoy life’s luxuries.

But when we shift our thinking, we create more opportunities to find joy in the everyday. Suddenly, dinner at home feels like a celebration, and simple moments with family or friends turn into cherished memories. It’s a reminder that we don’t need a holiday or a special event to make the day significant. In addition to using your “fancy” things, also make time for putting joy on your calendar and making time for YOU. This is about living on purpose. Why wait for someday? Now's the time.
