Times Three
Not to count my chickens before they hatch but I’m hopeful my family, friends and I’ll be heading to warmer temperatures and sunny skies soon. Our original trip to Hawaii was planned for March of 2020 but you know what happened next …..Covid!
Once our March trip was cancelled the condo manager stated we needed to rebook by November 2020 if we didn’t want to lose our reservation. However, all three condos needed to be available on the same days. We scrambled to make the dates work for everyone and again we were booked.
As you probably realize, November came and went without being able to fly. UGH. My daughter-in-law had to beg with the condo management team to let us rebook in 2021. Luckily we were able to rebook and give it one more shot. As we all scrambled once again to get dates to accommodate the condos and schedules, for the third time we were once again booked; even though three people backed out and we gained another.
For the last few months we’ve been skeptical whether or not the trip would actually happen, especially with the restrictions set in place for Hawaii, and the extra steps needed. We have to use a particular testing site and approved Covid test that must come back with negative results within 72 hours of the last leg of the flight. The test results are typically back within three days but there aren’t any guarantees……ARGH. If the test doesn’t come back in time, you must automatically be quarantined for 10 days at a designated location.
We also must fill out an extensive questionnaire listing our flights, times, condo addresses, phone numbers, unit numbers and the confirmed reservation numbers along with all our personal information as well. And must download a tracking app for the government in case we have to quarantine. Oh my gosh….maybe they should just put a location chip in us!
I think all of us are still on edge and most likely will be until we get our negative tests back on time (saying daily prayers), touch down on Hawaiian soil, collect our luggage, our rental cars, and get to the condos. If all that happens we will be lucky times three…..fingers crossed and positive vibes. How are you navigating a new normal?

PS…..We recently learned there will be a second covid test given at the airport upon arrival…..FOR THE LOVE OF! Stay tuned.
