Snow Angel

When was the last time you built a snowman, made snow angels or played in the snow? If you live in a part of the world that experiences the cold and powdery substance, you can probably conjure up fun childhood memories. Living on a farm in the Midwest lended itself to lots of tall mountain-like snow piles to scale, hike or sled down.

Growing up, along with my bothers, sister and a few neighboring children, we built snow forts, had epic snowball fights, rode snowmobiles and were pulled behind lining three or four up in a row on a toboggan followed by one on a round, metal saucer. Those were the days; playing carefree, full of imagination and curiosity.

My daughter recently reminded me of the fun her and Andrew, her older brother used to have playing on the mountains of snow on the farm. They spent hours building snow tunnels and igloos; only stopping when called inside to eat lunch or warm up with a steamy and marshmallow filled cup of hot cocoa.

Wouldn’t that be great as adults to play with complete abandon, using our imagination through child-like eyes, full of possibilities and promise in our lives? Recently, I was away for a short getaway to a log cabin in the woods. After hiking to a meadow, the pure white and pristine snow was calling me to come and play. It was beckoning me to lay down on the snowy-white blanket and create a snow angel, and then another. It was fun and I have to admit, I felt a little giddy. Are you taking time to play through your child-like eyes? We all have it inside of us, just waiting …. waiting for us to create a snow angel.
