Playful
I’m currently part of a group of coaches from around the world that were blessed to be a part of a million dollar coaching grant. We’re about half way through our eight-week commitment, and were asked to find a childhood photo to use throughout the week as part of the program. The purpose of using a childhood photo was to remember the magnificent essence of who we are.
In the first exercise we were asked to rest the critical part of our mind as well as block any sadness in childhood and look into the face of the child and see the beautiful, resilient and unchanging essence of our wise self. If we were unable to visualize a happy memory, we were to create a new positive visualization. The purpose of the exercise was in remembering who we are and to fall in love with ourselves again.
It was a powerful exercise for me as it took me back to a wonderful time in my childhood. A favorite time filled with happy memories as I relived the feelings of pure joy. I imagined every step like it was yesterday and I found myself smiling from ear to ear. We were asked to honor that child, beyond sadness and only see a beautiful, innocent being. Showing ourselves unconditional love peppered with empathy.
After the exercise we were asked to post our childhood picture along with our “I am” statements of who that child was and still is. Within the program we’re also assigned to smaller groups and as my group was discussing the exercise, we discovered everyone of us used the word “playful’ as one of our “I am” statements. I adored how each one of us remembered the playful child within.
Before the end of the call, we decided during the week we would make an effort to play. Recently, I came across a bottle of bubbles and yesterday, I spent time outside blowing bubbles in the breeze. I loved how the iridescent spheres kept landing on my bright pink mums. I loved bubbles as a child and I love bubbles now! I invite you to remember the beautiful essence of who you truly are, then I challenge you to be playful in some way that brings you pure joy.
