My Two Hours are Up
This past weekend my daughter was out of town for an extended period and had asked me to take care of Tillie, her feline. Her new place is about an hour away and with my other commitments was only able to stay Saturday/Sunday. One thing I needed to remember, if I parked in the streets during the day, my car had to be moved every two hours or risk being ticketed…..oh boy.
My daughter offered a few locations that didn’t have parking restrictions, but after driving around and around, realized those locations are snatched quickly, and wasn’t a lucky recipient. Since I was waiting for a friend to arrive, I thought, no worries, I’ll park and set an alarm.
Just when I was settled into an activity, the dang alarm would sound and I’d have to scramble out the door, walk to my car, drive around until I found another spot, walk back to her place, and set another alarm to do it all again….HA! This happened three times until I could locate parking spot number four and be set for the night.
Isn’t that how life shows up at times? Just when you think all things are running smooth, your two-hour alarm reminds you otherwise, and you scramble to adapt to the new change. Some changes are easy and some not so much, but you either adapt or you don’t.
Two of the four times finding a new spot was on a busy street that was undergoing construction and down to one lane. I stopped traffic, put my car in reverse and actually needed them to back up in order to parallel park. It was a stand-off between me and them. I decided I was going to park in the spot and intimidation tactics weren’t going to rattle my nerves. I stood firm and sure enough one by one, they backed up until I had enough room. I might have only been half in the spot once they started zooming by, but I felt accomplished at my resolve.
Sometimes life presents challenges we need to tackle in order to move on. In my experience there are always lessons learned, and I try to understand the message. Next time my two hours are up, I’ll be on my feet and ready to find my next victory. Hope you will too.
