Lifelong Love Letter
Today happens to be one of my favorite days of the year, Valentine’s Day. We get to express our feelings to our loved ones with messages in all shapes, sizes and shades of red and pink hearts. We proclaim our love for others, but how often do we proclaim love for ourselves? A few years ago I wrote a love letter to myself to do just that; not to be self-serving but to honor my being.
Around the same time, I also adopted a theme song and still listen to it throughout the week. It’s actually the song for my morning alarm. It’s a reminder that I deserve to take care of me. For most women, that seems to be balancing act, usually our needs fall to last place, but I’m determined to change that practice. It doesn’t always turn out, but I’m working on it.
If love letters and theme songs aren’t your style, what other ways could you show yourself some love? Maybe it’s pampering yourself at the spa, theater, shopping, a walk in the fresh air, dinner with your favorite friend, a good book or simply alone time to meditate, reflect, refresh and renew.
‘Tell the world that we finally got it all right……I choose you
I will become yours and you will become mine…..I choose you”
Deciding to choose yourself may seem selfish on the surface, but it’s so far from the truth. What better gift can we give to ourselves than love?
“But then you found me and everything changed….and I believe in something again
My whole heart will be yours forever….this is a beautiful start to a lifelong love letter
Tell the world that we finally got it all right…..I choose you”
If you haven’t already guessed, my theme song, I Choose You is written and sung by Sara Bareilles. For me, it’s about loving and choosing me. Once I made the decision to honor my life, everything changed and I believe in me.
“We are not perfect, we’ll learn from our mistakes
And as long as it takes I will prove my love to you”
No matter how many times I stumble and fall, I will always pick myself up, brush myself off and keep moving forward. It’s a lifelong love letter for me. Show yourself some love and choose you. Wishing you the happiest of heart days.
