Life Lessons from Both Sides
Although I’m a life coach, I’m also a woman reimagining her own life. My transformational path has been less about reaching a destination and more about understanding the journey itself. It’s an expedition paved not with certainties, but with the rich soil of self-discovery, where seeds of wisdom are sown by both teacher and student.
Things I know to be true:
Cultivating Self-Compassion
In the gardens of transformation, where I have both guided and been guided, the most growth has come from the rich soil of self-compassion. It is easy to fall into the trap of self-criticism, especially when we set out to improve ourselves. Remember, the journey of self-improvement is not to find fault with who we are, but to uncover more deeply who we have the potential to become.
The Teachable Heart
Life coaching is not just about imparting knowledge, it’s a reciprocal relationship between teacher and student. I have learned as much, if not more, from those I have coached as they have from me. To teach is to learn twice, and this has been the cornerstone of my practice. With each session, while I offer insights from my well of experiences, I too, draw from the wellspring of their shared wisdom.
The Journey of Non-Comparison
It’s easy to look sideways and measure our progress against the milestones of others. Yet, I have learned that the only compass we need points inward. Our journey is ours alone: embrace it, own it, love it.
The Wisdom of Selectivity
As one dedicated to the craft of self-evolution, I’ve often been met with remarks on my willingness to embrace numerous methodologies, then discarding them when they do not resonate. But therein lies a lesson: Just because we step into a stream of thought, it does not mean we must let the currents carry us indefinitely. Try, and if it fits, wear it; if not, let it drift away.
Embracing the Student Within:
In the classroom of life, I am eternally seated at a desk as much as I am standing before the chalkboard. The commitment to ‘try and see’ is a commitment to learning, to staying curious, to keeping the heart open to what might come. Each attempt, each trial, is a chapter in the grander scheme. It's not about the volume of what we try; it's about the resonance and the harmony it creates within our story.
I’ll continue learning life lessons from both sides, as we gear up for another round of learning, and another beautiful day of teaching. Let us remind ourselves: To teach is to learn, to learn is to grow, and to grow is to live fully, authentically, vibrantly.
