Game Night

I’d been trying to get my family together for a game night since Christmas Day……gasp! Unfortunately, my son and daughter-in-law were gone most weekends during the winter being photographers for the Amsoil Snocross National Racing Series. They traveled throughout the Midwest covering the Dakota’s to New York. Amazingly enough, between our schedules the past weekend was the first time we were all available on the same evening.

Since we consider my daughter the Jack of All Games, she was in charge of the evening line-up. She usually has an assortment of ideas and this time was no exception. After a delicious meal, we headed into the living room to challenge one another. The first game happened to be her boyfriend’s game they dug out of a closet at his lake house earlier in the day. He hadn’t seen the game in many years. The vintage game’s name listed Snake Eyes. A dice game meant for one player at a time with each round producing a lowest number winner.

The second game was by far the funniest and garnered the most laughter of the evening. It was actually a game I used to own called Pass the Pigs. The game consisted of two semi-soft plastic pink pigs that were rolled like dice. Depending on how they landed determined the amount of points gained or a loss of everything earned during that turn (such as, Razorback, Snouter, Leaning Jowler, or Makin’ Bacon..ha). We played several rounds hooting and a hollering with laughter. At one point we all ganged up on Hannah’s boyfriend since he’d won on every turn with unrestrained rolling straight through to 100 points. LOL The rest of us played more conservatively and wanted the rounds to go longer. The last game we played was the Mexican Train Dominos game. It went on for several rounds with the big winner being my daughter.

When was the last time you made time to play? Not just board or dice games, but something playful and fun? Many say playing fuels the imagination, creativity, problem solving abilities, and helps emotional well-being. I believe it also brings friends and family closer. My family has so many wonderful memories of playing games throughout the years and we often bring up those experiences which fuels the laughter all over again.

I’ve been adding more playful things into my life like dancing around the house, blowing bubbles outside, and trying new experiences to name a few. Laughter is one of my love languages and elevates my energy and raises my mood vibrations. I encourage you to organize a game night for friends and family, or make time for anything playful and fun. For my crew, it was another epic game night in the books!
