Full Circle

“When we come full circle there is a feeling that we have come to a familiar place but we are somehow different” - Daily OM. Last week a collage of photos came up on my phone. It was automatically set to music and displaying memories from the most recent yearly family vacation to my brother and sister-in-law’s cabin in Eagle River, Wisconsin, (a.k.a. God’s Country).

Eagle River was the place of my son’s first trip as a baby, while the cabin was being built. Our most recent trip and photos also happened to be his first born, baby girl’s, inaugural trip. It was a full circle moment for me as I watched him with her and thought about my first adventure with him.

Seeing him as a father is surreal. After witnessing him becoming a husband and then a father, some days it’s hard to wrap my brain around how fast the time flys. The way he cares for his family makes me proud.

The older his daughter gets the closer their bond becomes. When he walks in the room she starts wiggling and squirming in excitement, and the look in her eyes as he comes toward her melts my heart. She smiles as he picks her up in his arms, and the world seems right. There’s nothing like the feel of being in Daddy’s arms.

He keeps wishing she’d be walking and talking so he can teach her things about the farm and the land. He’s excited about showing her how to grow a garden or raise and care for animals. I cautioned him on wanting time to speed ahead. In the blink of an eye it’ll happen.

It’s been a full circle moment for me watching him as a parent yet remembering him as a sweet baby. My prayer for my son and grand daughter is for them to have the same close relationship I did with my Dad. It was special and pure love. One day my son will have a full circle moment of his own. I hope I’m there to witness the love.
