Finding the Good

2020 has definitely been the year to pivot. Just when we think one thing is on the road to recovery, another challenge takes its place, which felt like it happened again and again. Even though the events of this year have caused plenty of anxiety, frustration, depression, uncertainty and fear, it has also created moments of grace, beauty and miracles. In this season of thanksgiving, I wanted to dedicate this post to my family and asked them to highlight some of the ways their lives were blessed throughout the year.

My son, Andrew, was thankful for the family and friends he’s always been able to count on through good times and bad. He was also thankful for the generosity people provided with their time and knowledge in helping him remodel his bathroom.

My daughter-in-law, Crystal, was grateful for a simplified life with less events, obligations, gatherings and plans. She was able to spend more time on hobbies her and Andrew love, as well as time to create new ones. Her and Andrew were able to spend more time enjoying each other without the added stress of a full calendar. She loved finding the simple things in life were often times the most important things, and the most enjoyable. She was also thankful her and Andrew were able to continue working through Covid and for the steady income during times of uncertainty. And finally, being an outdoors enthusiast, she was thankful for spending more time in nature and seeing others enjoy the outdoors which brought her great delight.

My daughter, Hannah, was grateful for being able to spend more time with family which included extended stays with me. She was also thankful in having more time together with Andrew, Crystal and her dad.

My Mom was thankful for staying healthy, family, being alive and good friends.

My brother, Greg and sister-in-law, Pat were grateful for their cabin referred to as their retreat for peace, healthy living, and friends and family that were able to visit. They were also grateful for the time spent together golfing, boating and appreciating the lake while enjoying beautiful weather. They loved their time exploring waterfalls in the UP of Michigan. They were thankful three of their children were able to adjust working from home and although didn’t see them often, found having conversations more often and much deeper. Pat’s brother had a serious case of Covid that brought priorities and sharing feelings to the forefront. Greg and Pat both felt blessed to have each other, their children, and families.

My sister, Cindy, was grateful for her health, her beautiful granddaughters, family and fabulous friends.

My brother, Jeff, was grateful for his healthy family, and an extended summer vacation.

My sister-in-law, Dee was thankful for her family, love and the laughter they share.

My nephew, Chase, was grateful for the health and well being of his family through the crazy year.

I’m thankful for being able to spend more time with my family and being reminded of what really matters. I’m blessed to be able to stay connected to friends and family through technology. I’m grateful for having beautiful weather and regularly spending time in nature. I’m happy I’ve been able to organize, purge and create new self-care and soul-care routines.

How are you navigating the ups and downs in the world and in your life? I challenge you in finding the good in every day; you’ll discover hidden gems in every corner. In this season of gratitude and thanksgiving, I’m wishing you abundant blessings even in the stormiest of times.

xoxox…..Sheryl

PS….I just found out two members of the family went to be tested for Covid and unfortunately we had to cancel Thanksgiving Day dinner. OK….it’s time to pivot again.

PSS….I was responsible for bringing the mashed potatoes and sausage dressing for dinner. At least Hannah and I will have two tasty sides…..HA!
