Dance it Out
I’ve designated the month of August as Dance it Out. I wanted to move my body in a different, fun and inspiring way. I used to dance all the time. Now, I only dance at weddings or celebrations. Since I’m always aspiring to up my self-care practice, I thought dancing would be a great addition so, I’m challenging myself in dancing it out every day.
I’ve been dancing while cleaning the kitchen, folding clothes, making my bed, or dancing just to be dancing. I’ve been cranking up the music and then getting down with my bad self……LOL. In my mind I used to have some good moves and desire to get somewhere in the badass vicinity again…Haha. I’ve got mad goals!
What did you used to love that you’ve given up for everyday life happening: the career, the kids, the pets, the mediocrity, the should haves and would haves, the I don’t have time for this and that? What have you buried deep, you’re not even sure where you last placed it? It’s time for a little exploration and unearthing the lost and forgotten joy. Start excavating with childlike wonder, curiosity, and adventure, then remember how you used to feel. Or create something new that you’ve always dreamt of trying. Put down the never ending to do lists and make time for some joy.
Even though I usually dance it out at home by myself, last week I had obligations all day then had a meeting in the late afternoon that would go into the night and still hadn’t fit any dancing in. I also, needed to go to the family farm to pick sweet corn. I asked the friend I was meeting with if she minded going to the farm.
Once we arrived, I shyly announced I needed to get my dancing in for the day and asked her to join me. She laughed then agreed, and we danced it out in the sweet corn field. The music was playing among the tall stalks under a late and sunny afternoon sky as we moved our bodies vertically through the rows. It was not only inspiring to be dancing out in nature, it was fun and felt playful.
What I’ve noticed about dancing again is it makes me happy, I’m doing something good for my body, I’m remembering earlier times with friends, and frankly it makes me smile. I invite you to join me for the month of September. Dance for as long as your body guides you. Play your favorite tunes then be inspired to dance like no ones watching. I’ll meet you on the dance floor.

PS….I set a timer in increments of 10 minutes (i.e. 10, 20, 30), play some favorite music, then dance and let go.
PSS…Youtube has plenty of instructions if you want a refresher of line dances. I may or may not be practicing some moves for an upcoming trip….lol
