Becoming Her
June is my birth month and something about it always feels like a gentle invitation to pause, reflect, and realign with what truly matters. Longer days, warmer sun, and blooming gardens are the perfect backdrop for a deeper kind of becoming, the kind that happens within.
This year, I’m embracing the mantra: I get better and better at caring for myself, year after year. It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. About becoming more attuned to what I need and more willing to give myself the love I used to reserve only for others.
There was a time when I gave all my love and energy to everyone else, leaving scraps for myself. Maybe you know the feeling, always making sure everyone around you is fed, loved, supported, and thriving… while you run on empty. It wasn’t sustainable. And it definitely wasn’t joyful.
The shift began when I realized something that changed me at my core. When I take care of myself first, I can give to others from a place of fullness and not guilt or obligation.
It was one of those heart-truths that floored me. I’d spent so much time being everything to everyone, not realizing that I was slowly fading in the process.
Now, I’m committed to tending to myself. Not perfectly, not rigidly, but consistently and with love. I’m learning to take small steps for me and toward me. Some days I nail it. Other days, I start again. And that’s okay.
One thing I’ve come to cherish on this journey is a community of like-hearted women who walk this path with me. We remind each other that we’re not alone. That we don’t have to be superwomen. That our worth isn’t measured by our productivity, but by our presence. We’re taking everyday this month to choose happiness and joy.
Even though I already have rituals I return to, doing them with a group brings something extra. It adds accountability, but more importantly, it brings connection. I want to show up for them, and I want them to show up for me. Because we rise together.
If you’ve ever felt called to create or join a community like this whether with a friend, with me, or in a group of your own, I encourage you to follow that nudge. It can be life-giving.
You don’t need to overhaul your life. Start with one thing. Then another. Here are a few of my favorite self-care practices to inspire or spark your own:
Meditation - Whether guided, mantra-based, or simply sitting in stillness
Move your body - Dance, walk, stretch, swim, breathe
Hydrate - Nourish your body from the inside out
Eat clean - Choose foods that energize and sustain you
Practice appreciation - Write down three things you’re grateful for each day
Nature therapy - Let trees, flowers, and fresh air reset your soul
Sunshine - Soak in that Vitamin D goodness
Positive self-talk - Speak to yourself the way you’d speak to someone you love
Anything that makes you feel held, seen, and nourished
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to care for yourself more intentionally, this is it. Celebrate who you’re becoming. Rest when you need to. Shine when you’re ready. Say yes to your own well-being. And remember, when you care for yourself deeply, you don’t just fill your cup, you overflow with love, light, and strength for others, too. You’re worthy. You’re enough. And you’re not alone.
I’m becoming her, one intentional step at a time.
