We've Come a Long Way Baby

This past Sunday, International Women’s Day was celebrated and I was proud to be part of the movement that recognized women’s rights around the world. I was invited to present with a few other women at a local Hallmark shop that celebrated women and all they do. The event was focused on self-care, self-love and mindfulness.

As women, it’s important for us to lift and raise each other up in support of what we stand for. Women are often portrayed as the weaker, inferior sex but the truth is we have more courage and strength than we give ourselves credit for. We are often many of the following: a boss, employee, mother, wife, partner, daughter, friend, sister, aunt, household manager, taxi driver, and chef; the wearer of hat list goes on. We wear many hats as a necessity and proud badge of honor, because that’s how we’re built.

We do for others before our own needs are met, and on Sunday, all women were recognized and celebrated for their tenacity, strength, resilience, and compassion to name a few of the qualities we possess. It was a chance to come together; united in both our differences and similarities. By supporting each other it makes us stronger and better. Amy Tenney wrote, “The world needs strong women, women who will lift and build others, who will love and be loved.”

The day was about recognizing how important women are, all they do, and all they contribute to this world. We’ve come a long way, baby but I’m grateful to all the courageous women that came before us and created the momentum. Let’s keep lifting each other up, because one thing I know for sure is when we do, incredible things happen. Let’s keep this momentum going; be the change for the next generation of women to carry the torch.
