The Emerald City
A few weeks ago people around the world celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. Coincidently, a couple of friends and I had a day planned in the city. We knew the traffic and the people celebrating would be crazy, on the “everything green and shamrock” holiday.
We headed downtown later morning and had plans to see a broadway show, have dinner and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city; including the brightly colored, very festive, emerald green, Chicago River. The river was died green, just as it is every year, in honor of the Irish holiday. Hundred’s of thousands of people flocked to see both the river and parade.
We arrived just after the parade ended, but the hoopla was in full swing, as the streets and sidewalks were filled with people all decked out in every shade of green. Everyone appeared to be in a happy mood enjoying the crisp, sunny day. If you wore green, you fit right in.
As we gathered near a portion of the river, people were mobbed everywhere to get a view and take photos. As I looked out at the sea of people against the emerald river, it looked like a land of opportunity and abundance. As far as you could see it was brilliantly green, waiting for you to enjoy it’s splendor; as the sun made sections appear to sparkle. It was if the river wanted you to enjoy everything it had to offer.
What’s your emerald city, or opportunity you’ve been dreaming of? Is there something you’ve been meaning to start, but doubt and worry stop you? Trust your heart, honor it’s feeling and shine the light you were meant to radiate. Your gifts are unique and can only be shared by you, and the emerald city is waiting to share it’s abundance.
