Still Jumping

This year marked a significant birthday for my Mom and the matriarch of our family. We’ve deemed it as the Year of Kate (the nickname my Dad gave her when they married). She moved from Illinois to Virginia 18 months ago to live with my sister. Earlier this year she started to organize a special celebration and asked Mom how she would like to spend her birthday.

Her greatest desire was to see Michael Buble in concert. However, he was only performing in Las Vegas and London. She decided Las Vegas was the winner. When my sister announced we’d be heading west our mouths dropped to the floor in disbelief. If you knew anything about my Mom’s likes and dislikes, Vegas would be the last place on the planet she’d vacation. The planning began.

Fast forward a few weeks before the trip and Mom unexpectedly had to have surgery. Unfortunately we had to cancel our sin city adventure and try and offload $2000.00 worth of Michael Buble concert tickets. She would not be able to travel for three months and new celebration plans would be organized.

I was able to be at the celebration on her actual birthday. Everywhere we went throughout the week it would come up we were celebrating her 90th birthday and people were shocked by her age because of her fabulous appearance Her famous quote she would respond to comments were, “I’m still jumping.” LOL

My Mom has been active throughout her entire life. She’s line-danced, walked, biked, tap-danced, traveled extensively, and snow-skied until she was in her late 70’s. She’s been very healthy throughout her life until recent years but still looks amazing. Her determination, grit and get-er-done attitude serves her well.

Celebrating with Mom, my sister, and her family has been an honor and pleasure. I pray I will be able to claim, “I’m still jumping” at the same age. Happy birthday dearest Mary Catherine Casterton Goodwin, you are loved! Keep jumping! The Year of Kate continues!
