A Fresh Perspective
Life moves fast. We often find ourselves focusing on what’s missing, what’s broken, or what we wish could be different. But what if, for just a moment, we flipped the script? Instead of getting caught up in the green-eyed glasses of jealousy and comparison, what if we looked at the world and said, “I want some of that,” not with envy but with inspiration?
And even more importantly, what if we paused to ask, “What’s already working in my life?”
This simple question has the power to shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance, from frustration to appreciation. It’s easy to dwell on what’s not going right, but when we intentionally shift our focus to the things that are working, we create a powerful ripple effect of positivity.
I encourage you to take a moment, whether mentally or by grabbing a notebook, and start jotting down the things that are currently working in your life. They don’t have to be big, life-changing events; sometimes, the smallest joys carry the greatest weight.
Here are a few of mine:
I have a loving and supportive family who cheer me on.
I have a strong, soul-nourishing circle of friends who lift me up.
My work-life balance allows me to take meetings from home in comfy clothes.
My daily self-care rituals keep me grounded and present.
My body is capable, and I honor it with movement, and rest.
I have a cozy home filled with warmth and love.
I can enjoy a great cup of coffee each morning.
My creativity is flowing, and I’m feeling inspired and open to new ideas.
I’m embracing my journey with patience and self-compassion.
Some days, the list will be overflowing. Other days, it may be as simple as, “I woke up today, and that’s enough.” Both are valid.
When you start actively looking for what’s working, something magical happens and you feel lighter. Your energy shifts. You begin to realize that, even in the chaos, there is beauty. Even in the uncertainty, there are small, steady anchors holding you in place.
Instead of dwelling on what’s missing, use this exercise to fuel your fire. The good in your life is evidence of what’s possible. It’s proof that, even when things aren’t perfect, you have a foundation of appreciation to build upon.
That doesn’t mean ignoring what needs improvement, it means approaching those areas from a place of empowerment instead of lack.
I challenge you to take five minutes today and write down at least ten things that are working in your life. Big, small, or in-between, it all counts.
Then, take it a step further: feel the appreciation for those things. Let it wash over you. You’ll start to notice a shift. Your outlook will brighten. Your stress will soften. And little by little, you’ll begin to see how much goodness already exists in your life.
Now, it’s your turn! From a fresh perspective, what’s working for you right now? Then celebrate with all your might.
